"The function of religion is to protect us from an experience of God".
Religion has been used as a pretext, time and again to stunt the evolution of human kind.
This, along with the preset rules that come along as a package with the religion that we follow, has reduced the capacity of our race to think and do things for itself. The doctrine of karma leads by its inexorable logic to fatalism and the theory of transmigration of soul, casts the whole of human history and development into pre-determined and pre-fabricated steel frame. Perhaps, this could be the reason that the most frequently alleged obstacles to modernisation in India are the ritualism of caste system and the doctrine of fate (Karma), rebirth (Samsara),duty (Dharma) and salvation (Moksha), which are supposed to contribute a theodicy for social systems moral and metaphysical justification.
One may feel I am contradicting myself from my previous post, the cruz of my belief remains same. I don't deny the power that we know as God. But I definitely have a problem with religion and people mis-representing and mis-interpreting it. Today is what is important and now is what we should be living in. The past should just form a basis to what the present is for us but to use that as an excuse to stop progressiveness is a no no.
